Who would've thought recording home videos from a young age would spark such passion?
As a producer, director, and camerawoman bundled into one, video brings out the storyteller in me.
Plenty goes into it, from scriptwriting, set design, to directing and editing, I'm constantly learning how to tell tales through creative decisions.
Let's talk about TV; Competing teams were tasked with producing a 1 minute commercial on the SkillsUSA organization. Given COVID-19 and social distancing, my partner and I took on the challenge (remotely) from home and took home Gold in 2020.
To Jack Thilavong, the man who endured through so much; The title of my short film, Poh (ພໍ່), means father in Lao. Through the Youth Media Academy hosted by The Representation Project, I produced a short film on my father's refugee story. Eerie, heartwarming, and heart wrenching, the hard topics of war and displacement brought him and I closer.
Poh (ພໍ່) was accepted to the Rivercity Underground Film Festival, SBVC International Student Film Fest, Interrobang Film Festival, Great Plains Film Festival, Asian American International Film Festival, and SonderBlu Film Festival.
No light? No Basement Billy; Through an intense course/lab dedicated to lighting, 11 students and I were tasked with writing, producing, filming, and acting in a 5-minute (no edit) film in one final exam period. Needless to say, we lit things up.
City of stars... never shined so brightly; For my midterm, I chose a scene from my most favorite movie, La La Land, to analyze and recreate the lighting patterns.
Fun fact: the director Damien Chazelle and I are both from Providence, RI!
